British Airways Lounge: Lagos

British Airways has opened a totally renovated luxurious lounge in Lagos airport following a six-month refurbishment. It allows customers to relax, dine or work in a premium space, while also proudly exhibiting local art from Akoje Gallery.

To commemorate British Airways’ strong association with Nigeria, art from local artists will be displayed across the lounge. The airline has launched a partnership with Akoje Gallery to curate an innovative new in-lounge exhibition featuring and celebrating guest artists. The first showcase of works is themed ‘New Beginnings’ to celebrate the lounge opening. The selected artists will centre their works around the chosen theme.

The first artists are:

  • Olawunmi Banjo: Two paintings titled The Wait I and II
  • Qozeem Abdul Rahman: A Large painting titled The Guardian
  • Steve Ekpenisi: A large metal sculpture titled Ulaga

Akoje Gallery and British Airways will be inviting new artists to apply to showcase their works in the lounge on a yearly basis.

The applications will be open for Nigerian artists living in Nigeria and they will be required to submit their curated proposals for their works to be displayed in the British Airways lounge in Lagos. We will be accepting solo or duo shows only. The curation needs to focus on British Airways’ long standing association with Nigeria and needs to elevate the travellers' lounge experience and celebrate Nigerian culture.
At the application stage we will solely be focusing on the strength of the curation and examples of your past shows.
Applications deadline are on the 30th of August 2024.
